2021 Recap: Music Videos

2021 music video collage

When I first began streaming retro music videos on the show, I decided there should also be a set of just new releases as well, hence how this 2021 collection came to be. (It is a tradition I will keep moving forward, I’ve decided, so look for the new 2022 block starting up soon!)

What a fascinating journey it was into the music videos of this past year! Here are some highlights of 2021 as played on The Whimsical Blasphemy Music & Video Show.

The Rebellion of 2021

I’m glad I had reason to explore what videos came out this year! I admit that I haven’t paid much attention to newer music videos, unless it’s an artist I’m already into and seek out. Such as…

Satanic Planet

It’s a no-brainer that Satanic Planet music videos see a lot of play on The Whimsical Blasphemy Show. (Would you expect anything less from the house D/VJ of The Satanic Estate? )

Satanic Planet (self titled) You MUST watch the whole video.

They are a most sinister supergroup featuring Lucien Greaves (co-founder of The Satanic Temple), Justin Pearson (The Locust, Dead Cross), Luke Henshaw (Planet B), and also Dave MF Lombardo of SLAYER. They had big plans prior to the pandemic following their album release, but luckily for us, still stayed very productive over quarantine! (Be mindful that Satanic Planet is but one of many projects each of these guys are involved in, but this act feels like no mere side project for any of them.)

They released a handful of music videos this year alone, many of which are included on my 2021 list. They all feature different directors, mediums and concepts but are all unapologetically the Devil’s Work (…and His playtime, too). Do yourself a favor and check them out if you haven’t yet.

You must seeee The Devil in ME by Satanic Planet.

Satan has certainly smiled upon us in 2021…

Even the mainstream artists are revolting against God! It’s blatant enough that the Illuminati conspiracy sites don’t have to work as hard fabricating Satanic references out of obscure symbolism in pop videos. So without further adieu, have some…

Lil Nas X

@whimsicalblasphemyshow

Just a queer GenX Satanist delighting in @lilnasx ‘s descent to #hell 🖤 More guys on poles please! 🤩 #lilnasx #callmebyyourname #nonserviam #twitch

♬ MONTERO (Call Me By Your Name) – Lil Nas X

Can’t give a nod to Satanic Music videos in 2021 without Lil Nas X’s Montero, blowing minds with his descent on a stripper pole to successfully seduce Satan and take over Hell.

Watch Lil Nas X become the crowned King of Hell in- Montero (Call Me By Your Name)

It became a hobby of mine this year to watch him knock heads on his Twitter combatting all the hate he received from this video.

Other pop artists on this list who had new videos this year include: Lady Gaga, Billie Eillish… And Halsey- who also fits into the collaborative portion of…

2021- Surprising Collaborations that… really weren’t all that surprising.

Tom Morello & Pussy Riot

Russian punk band and activist group, Pussy Riot, is used to isolation unfortunately. They spent most of their time this year in house arrest but still made some powerful music and videos, as well as bang out this fun little jam & video with Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine).

You will see Pussy Riot again in the set too. I really couldn’t get enough of them this year.

Watch Weather Strike here

Danny Elfman & Trent Reznor

From out of nowhere this Summer, Trent MF Reznor & Danny MF Elfman released True. It is every bit as epic as you imagine such a collaboration to be.

Trent offered other pleasant surprises in audio/visual delights and collaborations that you will also come across on the list.

No More Spoilers!

So much more I could offer about the videos on this list and other 2021 vibes, but will leave you to explore the set yourself.

Let me know what you think, and if there’s anything you think should be on the list.
